The Donald Baker and Earl Kuehnast Travel Scholarships honor Dr. Donald Baker's 37 years of teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in climatology at the University of Minnesota, and Earl Kuehnast's 18 years of service as adjunct faculty member and State Climatologist (with the Minnesota DNR). These endowment funds are provided by friends, family, and former students.
The purpose of these funds is to further research communications and interactions with others and to provide for gaps in graduate student travel funding. Application deadlines will be announced each semester. The number and amount of the awards will depend on funds available, but will not generally exceed $800. Scholarships are open to all LAAS students, but those working in the atmospheric sciences will receive first priority. Applications should be emailed to the Directors of Graduate Study as a PDF file and should include the following:
1) An up-to-date CV
2) A brief (~0.5 page) statement describing: i) the reason for the trip and relevance to your research, ii) the reason that travel funds are required, iii) other funding avenues that are being pursued, and iv) what scientific conferences you have traveled to within the past two calendar years.
